When we pulled our set of promotional roller banners out of the cupboard to set up for an event at Catesby Tunnel a couple of weeks ago we discovered that a small part from one of the banners, which is designed to sit on top of the pole and clip to the top of the pulled-out banner, had gone missing. Luckily the part was missing from just one of the banners, meaning there was a part we could take a complete 3D scan of and create a copy using our 3D printers.
The scanner used for this task was the Artec Spider because it is able to capture detail in high resolution and accuracy, which is important for a such a small part. Four scans were taken, with enough overlap between scans to ensure accurate an alignment. The scans were then uploaded to our 3D scan processing software and turned into a useable STL for slicing and then printing.
For this print we used PLA Tough. Thanks to the tools available to us onsite and the efficiency of our highly-skilled and experienced 3D scanning team we had a new part, ready to use, in just 3 hours. A quick and easy fix which meant that we had a functioning banner for our event without having to buy a new one!
